So here it is. A list of what we reckon are the best 20 songs of the year. There are some that missed out that Indie kids will be loathing us for, others that you think should not be there and others that you may have never heard of. There are some missing that are in that bizarre crossover period of being released as part of an album late last year and as a single this year? Where do they stand? If I am wrong by excluding them then you can add ‘In the New Year’ and ‘On the Water’ by The Walkmen as part of the top 5 and ‘Jump in the pool’, ‘Paris’ and ‘Skeleton Boy’ by The Friendly Fires as really cracking songs that just missed out. Add to that The Price by Dappled Cities amongst others and you have what could have been a list of 300 rather than 20. Despite all this it’s all a bit of fun so if you don’t like it, find a website that writes exactly what you want to read every time and stick to it. I know I would!
1 The Reeling – Passion Pit:
Why is this number one? It’s a big call to make, but I know that when I look back on this year that was I will always think that THIS is the sound of 2009. Electro Indie, pop sensibilities and so much room to dance. I love it, I don’t care what you think. It is number one for how many styles, boundaries and genres it traverses.
